A Sea Full of Websites & Resources for Helping your Child Learn to Care for our Oceans

Today we’re switching up our usual format to share some impactful resources that will help you teach your children or students about Ocean Conservation.

One of our favorite Ocean-Conservation-focused organizations is The Surfrider Foundation, a community that is passionate about protecting the oceans and beaches we all love.

At Food For Thought By The Sea we believe in the protection of our oceans and we know the power of young people to be the best advocates and protectors possible.

We invite you to explore, share, and use the resources below to explore the ocean and marine life conservation with your children or students so that we can all do our part to stay educated and take action to protect our oceans.

World Oceans Day

This website has a wealth of resources for discussing how to protect our oceans.

Schmidt Ocean Institute

SOI offers a long list of links to resources for helping young people understand more about the ocean and conservation and the Institute has valuable information for adults too!

PADI
Have a visual learner or need some resources for classroom learning that aren’t powerpoints or hands-on crafts? This page offers some screen-time-worthy documentaries to get your child stoked about conserving the ocean.

Ocean Connectors

If you’re parenting or teaching an older child this page may be for you. The site offers young people ways to take action toward conserving and protecting our oceans.

KELP by Sailors for the Sea
Don’t let the “Register” button scare you. You’ll have to “register” for these lesson plans and resources... but they are FREE!

If you’re looking for classroom resources, you may find these super helpful.

Thank You Ocean
This website has a Kids Zone with a plethora of resources for addressing ocean conservation with young people and it’s done with a great deal of gratitude that we really love.

Plastic Pollution Coalition
No discussion of ocean conversation is complete without discussing the impact of plastics. This site offers an entire section on how to talk to young people about plastic pollution including links and relevant resources. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’ve gone straw-less or moved to metal or bamboo and away from plastics in your effort to conserve.
